Tools of Titans: Christopher Sommer

Christopher Sommer is a former gymnastics coach with over 40 years of experience. He’s trained a plethora of athletes and even developed his own training system, GymnasticBodies.

This is the best information I extracted from this chapter:

  1. “If you want to be a stud later, you have to be a pud now.”
  2. “When in doubt, work on the deficiencies you’re most embarrassed by.”
  3. Consistency over Intensity.

There wasn’t much on a deep personal level that I took away from this chapter. The first section, however, is on teeth my oldest, Ariana, has her first loose tooth. She now jumps at the chance to eat an apple or something comparative.

I learned here that her teeth should be saved by a company that can maintain the tooth and its stem cells for later usage if need be. $625 for setup and then $125 per year for storage and maintenance. I’m glad there is science that is out to help people through treatments of various kinds. But this is an investment that seems worse than insurance. $125 a year which could never be used?

Tools of Titans: Amelia Boone

No one owes you anything

The first chapter of section “Healthy” brings us Amelia Boone, an avid obstacle course racer. I ran a Warrior Dash once a few years ago. It was a fun time but nothing I would consider consistently participating in. The appeal of these higher end, more difficult races like the Spartans or Tough Mudders, has bypassed my interest. I can still appreciate, however, the level of work that goes into success on the competitive level of these OCRs.
