Tools of Titans: Christopher Sommer

Christopher Sommer is a former gymnastics coach with over 40 years of experience. He’s trained a plethora of athletes and even developed his own training system, GymnasticBodies.

This is the best information I extracted from this chapter:

  1. “If you want to be a stud later, you have to be a pud now.”
  2. “When in doubt, work on the deficiencies you’re most embarrassed by.”
  3. Consistency over Intensity.

Tools of Titans: Maria Popova

I didn’t even make it into the chapter before Maria was dropping BOMBS!

If you’re looking for a formula for greatness, the closest we’ll ever get, I think, is this: Consistency driven by a deep love of the work.

&

Life is a continual process of arrival into who we are.

Tim Ferriss was right in stating, “Her quality and output are staggering.” Maria touches upon consistency, passion, and adaptability from the get-go, three important factors to productivity and achieving your objectives. They fall in line with my and many others’ situations where there’s a job to pay the bills, life’s responsibilities, and then everything else.

There wasn’t much on a deep personal level that I took away from this chapter. The first section, however, is on teeth my oldest, Ariana, has her first loose tooth. She now jumps at the chance to eat an apple or something comparative.

I learned here that her teeth should be saved by a company that can maintain the tooth and its stem cells for later usage if need be. $625 for setup and then $125 per year for storage and maintenance. I’m glad there is science that is out to help people through treatments of various kinds. But this is an investment that seems worse than insurance. $125 a year which could never be used?

Tools of Titans: BJ Miller

What could possibly be the biggest takeaways from a chapter with sections like “Don’t Believe Everything That You Think,” “Delighting in Perishability,” and “The Miracle of a Snowball”?

There are quite a few, but the biggest one to me is:

One way for all of us to live until we’re actually dead is to prize those little moments.

Tools of Titans: Chris Sacca

If there’s one thing I’ve taken away from this chapter AND my dad is don’t be afraid to ask. Don’t mind asking the “dumb” questions. Because you might think the answer is foretold or obvious but you might be surprised to hear the answer itself or where the answer may lead.

Tools of Titans: Amelia Boone

No one owes you anything

The first chapter of section “Healthy” brings us Amelia Boone, an avid obstacle course racer. I ran a Warrior Dash once a few years ago. It was a fun time but nothing I would consider consistently participating in. The appeal of these higher end, more difficult races like the Spartans or Tough Mudders, has bypassed my interest. I can still appreciate, however, the level of work that goes into success on the competitive level of these OCRs.
